Soap Box Story, Pencil and the Mirror

Often we are misled when faced with a problem, and although the problem is solved, but the solution is not an efficient solution and the fact that even too complicated. 


1. One of the cases there is a case of the empty soapbox, which happened in one of the largest cosmetic company in Japan. The company received complaints from customers who said that he had bought a box of soap (made of paper) is empty. With the immediate leadership of the company told the matter to the packaging on duty to remove all the soap boxes that have been packed into the shipping department. For some reason, there is a soap box that escape and reach the empty packaging. The management team asked the technicians to solve the problem.Immediately, the technicians work hard to make an X-ray machine with high resolution monitors which are operated by two people to see all the soap boxes that pass through the beam and make sure that the box is not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and fast but the cost was not small. But when there is an employee at a small company faced with similar problems, he did not think about complicated things, but he came up with different solutions. He bought an electric fan to an industry that has considerable power and directing it to the packing line. He turned on the fan, and each soap box passed the fan, the fan is blowing the empty soap box out of the packing line, because the soap box is made of a lightweight paper material. 

2. When NASA started sending astronauts into space, they discovered that their pens did not work in zero gravity, because the pen ink can not flow into the eye pen. To solve the problem, they spent a decade and 12 million dollars. They developed a pen that can function in such circumstances under zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in a variety of surfaces including crystal and in the degree temperatures ranging from below freezing to more than 300 degrees Celsius. And what do the Russians? They used a pencil! 

3. One day, the landlord received complaints from customers. The customers began to feel their waiting time at the elevator doors seemed a long time as we get residents in the apartment. He (the owner) invited several experts to to solve. One expert suggested that increasing the number of elevators. Of course, by increasing the lift, waiting time to be reduced. Another expert asked for the owner to replace the elevators that are faster, with the assumption, the faster the person served. Both suggestions were certainly need not cost you a little. However, one other experts suggest only one thing, "The core of your customer's complaint is that they feel a long wait." Experts had advised to invest only in front of mirror glass elevator, so customers distracted from work "pending" and felt "not waiting for the elevator." 
Moral of this story is a philosophy called KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), that is always looking for simple solutions, so that even a fool can do it though. Try to compile the simplest solution and allow to solve the problem. Therefore, we must learn to focus on solutions rather than on focusing on the problem.
